About: This is Bongo a handsome rich black and white boy looking to find his FUR-EVER home. Bongo will need to find placement with an adopter before 3pm on May 18, 2024.
Bongo was previously on a deadline and found placement with a temporary foster. He did well in the foster home, but since he has been back in the shelter, he is already showing signs of shelter decline. Bongo will need to find permanent placement before 3pm on Saturday May 18, 2024.
Bongo needs a second chance at life - he came to the shelter with a group of dogs that were out at large and unfortunately it resulted in a small dog being fatally injured and someone being bitten by one of the dogs from the pack. As such, Bongo cannot live in a home with small animals. But Bongo has proven that he settles beautifully into a home, relaxing and learning how to go with the routine of the home.
He foster said that that "Bongo was housetrained from day one and never chewed on anything that wasn't his. He is a perfect gentleman when left home alone. He's learning not to put his paws up on the kitchen counter [or when meeting people]. He sleeps peacefully through an eight-hour night in his crate. He also doesn't bark a lot."
He loves his toys - squeaky, chew kongs, ropes and balls, and he'd carry them all one by one into his crate. He enjoys tugging games and to be chased with a toy in his mouth. Bongo is also great with self-play with them, sometimes taking a toy out to where the foster was working to just be near them with a toy. While he didn’t live with any other dogs, he didn’t mind as he got plenty of love and attention from his two humans and he enjoyed every minute of it. His foster said he is very gentle, sometimes puppy-ish in play but charming.
In the shelter, Bongo has been friendly despite a bit of nerves. He did get to meet other dogs in a playgroup, where he gave appropriate corrections when he wanted space - he mostly just kept to himself and explored the yard. Bongo will need to meet any dogs he will be living with to be sure they will be a good fit for each other.
The foster wanted people to know that "Bongo will be an exceptionally loyal and pleasant friend for the right household. He hasn't had a lot of training but is definitely teachable. He's bright and willing to learn. His energy is uncomplicated, still puppylike in some ways, but thoroughly adult in others." Please come meet Bongo to see if you'd be a good fit together.
