Frequently Asked Questions at PetHarbor

Q: How do I list my rescue's pets on Petharbor?

A: Thank you for your interest in including your animals’ information on PetHarbor. At this time, the data you see on PetHarbor is imported directly from our clients (www.chameleonbeach.com to see who we are) or from Adopt a Pet (www.adoptapet.com), previously known as 1-800-Save-A-Pet. If you are interested in shelter management software please visit our website to learn more about our products. If you are not interested in shelter software at this time, you may wish to contact the folks at Adopt a Pet about sending your data to them. You would then have an option to send it on to other agencies, including PetHarbor.

Q: I saved a search but now I don't see it?

A: Saved searches use cookies stored on your computer to track your search parameters. These cookies are harmless and only keep track of the information you asked us to save. If your browser has cookies disabled then your searches won't save. If you clear your browser history and cookies then your saved search will disappear. In order to keep your saved searches, please enable cookies and remember not to clear your cookies.

Q: How do I edit my breed request?

A: On your daily breed request email there is a link at the top that says “Click this link To Edit your search profile or upload an image.” Click this link in order to edit your request. After making your changes, be sure to click the "Submit" button found at the bottom of the page. You will receive an email confirmation from us that changes have been made.

Q: I clicked to edit my request but everything is grayed out. What now?

A: If you've attempted to edit your request but everything is low-lighted, it is because you have not yet replied to the challenge email and confirmed your request. Please look for email from us that may be in your spam or junk mail folder. Click the link to activate your request and the link to edit you request should allow you to modify it.

Q: How do I cancel my request?

A: On your daily breed request email there is a link at the top and at the bottom that says: “Click this link to cancel your registration at any time.” Clicking this link will cancel your breed request and you will no longer receive e-mail for matching animals.

Q: I accidentally cancelled my request. How do I make it active again?

A: If you've accidentally cancelled your request, on the cancel page, you will find a link to reactivate your request. If you have already closed the website, you can click the "Cancel" link again to get to that page.

Q: I would like information on a specific animal.

A: Petharbor provides lost, found, and adoptable postings for animal shelters across the country. However, none of the animals are in our care. For additional information on a particular animal please contact the shelter directly. Their contact information can be found on each animal’s detail page. The animal’s detail page can be accessed by clicking on the image of the animal or the linked text next to the animal’s picture.

Q: Why are you sending me the same matches every day?

A: We send out all potential matches based on the criteria you have selected. If a particular animal matches that criteria, we will continue to send that animal's information to you. We'd rather err on the side of caution and send out all potential matches each day than have you miss seeing the animal you are looking for.
If you do not wish to receive daily emails, you can do the following create a saved search. You will then be able to view animals at your leisure by going to www.petharbor.com and clicking the link for your saved search.

  1. Go to www.petharbor.com.
  2. Enter the zip code where you live and click "Adopt a Pet", "I Lost my Pet" or "I Found a Pet" as appropriate.
  3. Place a check in the box for each shelter from which you'd like to receive information.
  4. Click "Use this Shelter List".
  5. Click "Dogs", "Cats" or "Other" as appropriate.
  6. Click "Search Now"
  7. At the bottom of the page, above the "Success Story" is a box where you will enter the title of your search and click "Save".
You can have several saved searches. Note that you must have cookies enabled to use this function.
