Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Caramelo is handsome boy with an ooey gooey inside just like the candy bar he’s named after! With a bit of time to feel comfortable with his human companions, Caramelo loves affection and melts for pets and attention. During a brief adoption Caramelo was house and crate trained, enjoyed car rides, and was described as funny and loving with the people he was comfortable with.

Here’s what Caramelo’s volunteer friends have said about him:

“Sweet sensitive Caramelo was such a pleasant buddy on our walk. He loves his treats and enjoys pets. He even got the zoomies at one point, which was really adorable to see. In general, he has a quiet demeanor, and I really enjoy seeing his gentle, sweet side.”

“Caramelo is a regular walking companion, and I always look forward to taking him out. He is often up on the gate to greet me with bright eyes and a wagging tail. He is quite eager to get out of the building and we get down to the serious business of exploring the terrain. He checks in regularly with good eye contact, has a great sit, and takes treats gently from my hand. We settle into a comfortable pace as we proceed around the lake, much of it loose-leash at my side. When we return to the shelter he goes right into his own kennel without any fuss and calms immediately, giving a solid sit for unleashing. His great behavior is rewarded with treats and affection. Caramelo seems to love human company. He would make a great companion.”

“I've grown to love walking Caramelo first thing in the morning. He's a good boy- I usually rub his ears and as he relaxes away from the shelter he becomes a great walker. Caramelo is a smart, playful, and energetic boy.”

“Caramelo and I went into a play yard where he quickly did his business, sniffed a tennis ball, and explored the yard. He was not very interested in me at first, although he relaxed after he had some time to check out his surroundings. We then went for a walk and Caramelo turned out to be a really nice walker and checked back frequently during our walk.”

“My first time walking Caramelo. I leashed him easily and out we went. We made our way through the parking lots and out to the park. He walked with a light pull but was quite easy to manage. I sat on the bench and Caramelo sidled up to me, so I gently scratched his ears. He leaned in, so I rubbed the top of his head. He loved it. I walked him a bit more and rubbed his head again and he just leaned in and accepted affection joyfully. On the whole, Caramelo was delight.”

Caramelo came to the shelter after being abandoned, so he’s been through a lot and deserves a loving, stable home. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit. Ask to meet Caramelo today!
