Last weeks SVPP Dog Day out Notes:
Today I: Got to go on a later morning/afternoon walk! I am always so excited leaving the shelter - give me 2 mins to freak out and then it's easy to get all my gear on! I practiced my training a lot and showed that I am a perfect sitter and I am the best at shaking a paw. We walked in the sunshine for almost 2 hours, then I played a bit with a ball in the field before heading to get a pup cup!

Three Words to Describe Me are:

Sweet, Smiley, Smart

Notes from My Walker:

Another awesome day hanging out with sweet Roo! She’s always easy to gear up, get into the car, and go on whatever adventure you have waiting for her.

Today we worked on more of her training on walks approaching other dogs on the trail: show Roo the treat upon approach, pull off to the side of the trail, and then “sit” while the other dog passes. Roo has gotten really good at this and we had no issues with this on our walk. We also practice “sit” on command while walking with a treat reward and she’s extremely responsive - perfect at this. Really proud of Roo! She’s doing so good with this and with consistency could be cured of her excitement of seeing other dogs while out in the world… Geese and squirrels may need some more work. Roo definitely has a strong prey drive, but I give her a lot of grace as she isn’t used to seeing wildlife in the shelter.

Outside of working with Roo on her training, she’s a perfect dog. All Roo wants to do is be by your side and wear the biggest smile doing it. She loves having a quiet nap in the car and I always make sure to play quiet music or none at all so she gets some time to experience a bit of a change from the loud, busy shelter environment. You’ll have no trouble taking her on car ride adventures.

It always amazes me how much of a bright, positive light she is for a dog who has overcome so much adversity by humans and has spent a year at the shelter. She has every reason to not trust people, but still greets every single person with a ginormous smile and some big loving licks.

Roo is more than ready for someone to give her a chance to not only change her life, but yours too! You’ll never have a bad day if you got Roo as your best friend!

Last weeks SVPP Dog Day out Notes:
Today I had such a good time on my DDO! I went for a long walk at the park with two of my familiar friends. We worked on my leash reactivity training and I even showed them how well I know how to shake “paws”! They also brought me a ball so we could run around the field. I loved rolling in the wet grass - one of my walkers called it a “grass bath” lol! Afterwards, we went to get pup cups and coffee, and we even walked around Petco where they got me a little toy. While we were waiting to go back to my kennel, I was in the lobby of the shelter showing off how ready I am to meet adopters by shaking my paw. Hopefully one of the people who saw my tricks and said I was “such a good girl” will come back for me!

Three Words to Describe Me are: Smart, Energetic, Adorable

Notes from My Walker: Woo Woo Roo Roo! She’s always an easy girl to spend the morning with. She’s excited to see you, travels in the car perfectly, gives the best kisses and cuddles, and ready for whatever adventure you’re about to go on. Roo is truly happy as long as she’s with her people. You cannot wipe the smile off her face.

We are being consistent on working on her training with reactivity towards other dogs while on the leash. She had no issues on our walk with getting her attention with a treat while approaching other dogs, getting into a “sit” as they walk by, and then rewarding after they pass, and continuing on the way. Consistency will be key with Roo in learning how to approach and ignore other animals while walking will require patience and understanding by her future home. She’s quite prey driven and is harder to distract once she sees a squirrel or small animal around her - something that may calm down with extended time out of the shelter and on regular walks.

Roo loves to be around her people and loves to give kisses and cuddles to show it. She sometimes gets so excited to see you she can be a little jumpy and mouthy, so I’d be wary of adopting her into a home with younger children. Older dog-savvy and respectful kids and teens would be totally fine as long as they understand she is just trying to say she loves you!

We love getting to spend downtime with Roo after walks because she really just likes to lay around with you. We’ve taken her for various breakfasts and coffee dates and she is always happy to sit by your side and relax.
