If, like me, you watched the movie Arachnophobia as a child and have never been quite the same, you can breathe a sigh of relief. This is not that kind of Spider! He is fuzzy like a tarantula, but the similarities end there- we promise!! Here’s what Spider’s foster had to say about him:

“Spider pup, spider pup, does whatever a spider pup does!! Spider is SUCH a good boy y’all. We already knew that, but seeing any dog in a home means so much too. So far we know:

- Spider is a lover. Very happy to be around people, curious, gives many kisses, and will lay right down to snuggle you.
- Spider has done very well being calm and non- reactive to my dog.
- Spider has done really well with crate training! He needs a secure crate because he can be an escape artist, but he settles in very well and has learned that it is his safe space.
- Spider is a smart and treat motivated boy. He knows sit, down, come, and leave it! He takes his treats very gently too!
- Spider loves walks, tug, and car rides! He also LOVES the water!
- Spider took a little time to settle in and learn where to go potty, but he’s got it now!

Spider is truly a great dog and is ready for his forever home!”

Spider lived in his former home for about two years, ever since he was a puppy. His person loved him but realized that Spider would do best in a home without livestock- the pigs, goats and chickens on the property were a bit too interesting for our eight- legged friend! Just kidding, he only has four legs! He is definitely looking for a livestock free forever home though! Here’s what a couple of Spider’s friends at the shelter said about him:

"Spider is one of my absolute favorite boys. I love to take him to the yard and play ball, practice commands for snacks (which he loves), or just love on him. Spider is very affectionate and loves to jump up on the bench at your level and get some kisses in if you are game (which of course I am). He has a beautiful smile and the most adorable floppy-to-one-side ears. He is a great walker and lives to sniff all the things. He can be strong on leash but is smart, eager and treat motivated so should be easy to train for better leash manners once he gets out of the shelter. I love this guy. He has so much potential, love and devotion to give."

"Rather than worry about distractions on our walk, Spider and I headed towards the wash. He relaxed considerably as he engaged all his senses to find interesting sights and smells. Several times he looked back (good eye contact) and sat patiently while I retrieved a treat (gentle mouth). He is an engaging walking companion, responding to simple verbal and visual cues as we meandered through the brush. Spider needs to work on leash manners, but he has great engagement and is treat motivated, so I expect he will learn quickly. A fine dog who would do best with an experienced partner."

Spider lived with other dogs previously and shared his kennel while in the shelter. When meeting other dogs in playgroup Spider was a little bit nervous but was tolerant and social overall. He needs a home with a secure yard and a slow introduction to new people so that he feels comfortable. Please ask about Spider today!
