Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
With a name like Bongo, this boy might just have some musical talent… but don’t worry, you won’t get any noise complaints from the neighbors (unlike Matthew McConaughey did when he was playing the bongos nude back in 1999 and the police had to intervene). This handsome boy was on a deadline and was saved in the nick of time- he went to a short term foster home where we learned a ton about him. Here’s what his foster said:

“Bongo was housetrained from day one and has never chewed on anything that wasn’t his. He is a perfect gentleman when left home alone. He's learning not to put his paws up on the kitchen counter. He sleeps peacefully through an eight-hour night in his crate. He also doesn’t bark a lot.

On walks he's mostly a 'focused' walker, looking at the ground in front of him and going at a brisk clip. He doesn’t pull hard, though he can be reactive to people and other animals. However, he has moved steadily toward a much more relaxed attitude on walks while with us.

Bongo was comfortable in the crate during the day and would sometimes hang out or nap there with the door open. He liked to collect his toys in there, carrying them one by one from wherever they were in the house. Very cute! He loves and needs toys- tug toys, squeaky toys, chew toys, Kongs, ropes, balls… He enjoys tugging games and to be chased with a toy in his mouth. He would sometimes take a toy out on the deck or into the room where I was working and just amuse himself quietly with it.

Bongo was very gentle with us. He wants to be pet, wants attention of any kind, and wants to play. He wants to be in the same room with his people most of the time. Bongo is learning to ride in the car quietly and often lies down during a car ride.

I understand that Bongo was surrendered with four other dogs because the owner said that they kept getting out of the yard. I have the impression that he wasn’t given much personal attention or training and was just part of a backyard pack. I think he would learn quickly from living in the company of an energetic but better-trained dog.

Bongo will be an exceptionally loyal and pleasant friend for the right household. He hasn’t had a lot of training but is definitely teachable. He's bright and willing to learn. His energy is uncomplicated, still puppylike in some ways but thoroughly adult in others.”

Bongo is back at the shelter and could find himself at risk again. He would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home. Please ask to meet Bongo today!!
