Foster notes, 12/4/23:
Pie is an extremely affectionate dog that has lived most of his life in the shelter. He would benefit from some training as he can be hyper but this is at no fault of his own. Having another playmate helps with his energy. Because Pie hasn’t had a lot of interactions with other dogs and been able to be a pup himself, all he wants to do is play while the other dogs are wanting to rest. With positive redirection Pie will calm down and take a rest himself. Pie gets really excited and will try to grab blankets, toys, whatever may be around so I would recommend lots of variety of toys for him. He absolutely loves playing fetch and could play this for hours if you allowed it. Pie is such an amazing dog that has been looked over time and time again. All he wants is love, affection and attention. He will make an amazing partner in any adventure his family goes on. He loves to ride in cars and when we take him out, he goes to the car wanting to get in- it’s the absolute cutest thing. Pie loves to get belly rubs and will reward you with all of the kisses in the world. He is such a good boy that is so deserving of a forever home. Pie is house and crate trained, and lets you know when he needs to go potty. He is walked on a leash to go outside and is starting to do much better on leash. There are times when Pie will take charge and wants to walk himself by taking the leash in his mouth and starts walking in the direction he would like to go. I crate Pie when I leave the house and he’s done absolutely amazing. Pie knows sit and that is about it. We are working on other commands. I would recommend not playing tug of war with him and just tell him to “drop” the toy and he will so you can then throw it for him to go and fetch. This is a positive way to play with Pie that does not get him too overstimulated and excited. Pie does amazing with my 2 year old and my other dogs. I would recommend that Pie go to a home with at least one other dog so he can have someone to play with as playing as become his absolute favorite thing to do. I also have cats in the house and Pie is not bothered at all with them and does not engage with them at all, he is just uninterested in cats.

Like every dog, Pie just needs a family willing to show him patience and love and who will work with him. Sound like you? You can either schedule a visit at www.burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS or stop by our facility during regular business hours!

Dog Day Out notes, 9/2/23:
Walking Pie around Elon campus was the best part of my day. It was so sweet to see people stop and give him love and see just how happy Pie was all day.

Dog Day Out notes, 9/9/23:
Pie is a super sweet, good natured boy. We had him during some intense thunder storms and he wasn’t phased by them whatsoever. He is also a great car rider and seemed to really enjoy riding in the car. He went through a drive-thru and did fine, and loved licking on a pup cup. We took him to Joe Davidson park and he did pretty well on the leash; he pulls a little bit, but he’s small enough that he’s not hard to control and I think he would learn to be a natural leash walker with practice. We passed some dogs and other people on the trail and though he was interested, he didn’t lunge or try very hard to get to them. While it was storming, we took him to our apartment and he loved running around and playing fetch. He didn’t have any accidents while with us. He has some humping behaviors, but I’m sure that could be solved with training. Overall, a sweet boy with puppy energy that could use an energetic companion & a fenced in yard to run and play.
