Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Medical needs shelter dog Dan-O, abandoned by family and loose for a month, is looking for a special home.

Dan-O is about 1.5 years old. We think he’s probably a Rottie/Shepherd type mix. He arrived at the shelter on New Year’s Eve after being caught by our friends at Dog Days Search & Rescue. Folks in the area reported that his family packed up a motorhome and left. ?? He stuck around, scared, for about a month before he was finally able to be brought in.
At the shelter we noticed that Dan-O had a bit of an unusual gait in his legs/hips. Exams by our on-site veterinarian and a neurological consult were inconclusive, but all suspect a neck or spinal abnormality that at this time, does not seem to impact his quality of life at all!

Perhaps as a result of fending for himself, Dan-O isn’t the dog that’s going to run up to you for pets or snuggle up to people. But he’s never shown any signs of aggression and has tolerated handling for vet exams like a champ! He absolutely LIGHTS UP around other dogs. Seeing him bound around and play without a care in the world is really special.
The goal for Dan-O is a home or rescue transfer with someone who will continue to monitor his condition and make sure Dan-O has a comfortable, happy life where he will never be abandoned again. A confident, respectful doggie sibling to teach him that humans are friends may be beneficial.
To learn more about Dan-O, please come meet him at the shelter! We’d happy to speak with you more about his needs. Meet and greets with other pups welcome.
