This handsome mini gelding is Otis!

Otis came to Longmeadow at the end of last year. It has taken some time for Otis to get settled into life at the Ranch. He had minimal training at his previous home and had picked up a bad habit of bolting from handlers. After a lot of groundwork training, we finally made progress in the right direction! Now, he is ready to continue that training in a forever home!

Otis' dashing looks have acquired the attention of many. His "mini Clydesdale" look and sweet face make him a real head-turner and he has become a favorite amongst volunteers and visitors. He is still working on his confidence when it comes to being led and definitely does better with his "favorite" staff members who have spent more time gaining his trust. However, with some extra attention, patience, and maybe a little treat every now and then, you'll be his favorite in no time.

Upon evaluation by our trainers, they found that Otis was uncomfortable with any girth pressure and unfamiliar with a bridal. We think with some more time and training, however, this guy could be trained to do anything! He responds well to correction, so he will need a confident, strong handler who isn't afraid to correct any unwanted behaviors.

Otis is good for grooming and, after lots of training, now stands well for our farrier. After his arrival, he tested positive for Cushings. He will require a daily dose of Prascend. Otis takes oral medications very well, so this has not been a problem for us! He may also need some extra help shedding his thick coat in the Spring!
