Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
This big, beautiful mare came to Longmeadow during the fall of 2022 as an owner surrender. She had lived with her previous family for the majority of her life. We were told she spent her days being ridden around the farm. When they could no longer care for Altitude, she came to us.

Altitude is currently riding at the walk, trot, and canter. She can be a bit anxious on the ground when away from her friends and will need a confident intermediate handler. Altitude is a lovely mover and when she’s engaged with her handler, it is very clear that her potential is unlimited. She stands 16.1HH and is a hardy, stout Thoroughbred cross. Please note that Altitude will require a confident intermediate handler/rider at this time. She is not spooky. She is level headed under saddle and a joy to ride.

In the process of evaluating Altitude for riding we discovered a large old injury to her right hindquarters. The injury is not obvious and was first discovered by one of our veterinarians when evaluating her hind end. He found old trauma to her muscles. She tracks slightly short on her RH when going to the right. Because her radiographs were normal he suggested injecting her SI joint, which we did. She has since improved.

At this time Altitude does require front shoes and we give her bute prior to her farrier visit. We believe she has learned to expect pain when a farrier would pick up her hind legs and unintentionally aggrevate her SI joint. We want to make sure she is comfortable during the farrier visits. It is possible she will need a routine injection in her SI but she might not need another. Her future adopter will just need to monitor her comfort level.

Height: 16.1HH
Adoption Fee: $1,200
Maximum Carrying Weight (tack plus rider): 250 lbs
