Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Mama is an old lady house hippo looking for a change of scenery. The shelter is no place for a senior citizen! Mama could stand to lose a few pounds (who couldn’t!?) to help keep her healthy and on the move. She has a bit of a waddle and is definitely not built for long distance (and never will be, so those looking for a marathon training buddy need not apply). But, she’d love a place to work on her calisthenics, followed by a long cozy nap.

Mama spent two weeks in a foster home where she was housebroken and did great with kids. Her foster said that Mama’s favorite toys are anything she can chew on! Bones, sticks, Kongs with peanut butter…and she cuddles with her stuffed lamb to go to sleep. Mama’s foster described her as friendly, gentle, loving and sweet.

Mama has some typical old lady problems and doesn’t see or hear as well as she once did, but there’s no limit on the amount of love she has to give! Here’s what her volunteer friends have said about her:

“Mama is a lovely lady with a big smile and very happy wiggles! It was my first time meeting her so I gave her a treat when I first approached her kennel. She is very treat-motivated in general. We went to a nearby play yard where she explored with enthusiastic tail wags and checked back frequently for periodic pets. Seems very playful!”

“Mama is a sassy girl who loves to go for walks and enjoy the outdoors. Examining all the plants and bushes in the park is a must for her. I love this girl!”

“Mama really is just as SWEET as she looks! She’s a sponge for attention and really soaks in any love and kindness you have to offer. She deserves to be in a soft, comfy, cozy home with people who adore her. She’s simply perfect for someone looking for an easy, affectionate, low-activity love bug. She needs and deserves a home where she can enjoy delicious food (in moderation), go for leisurely walks, and share a couch with her human companion.”

Mama would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit or would be perfectly happy to be the only hippo in the house. Please ask to meet Mama today!!
