Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Meet Akira! This malamute mix came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardians were unable to continue caring for her. Her previous guardians described her as patient, obedient and friendly. She lived primarily outdoors in her previous home and may benefit from a home where she has access to the outdoors regularly as she prefers to lounge outside. Akira is a smart cookie and would enjoy continuing to bond with a guardian through positive reinforcement based training. She already knows “sit”, “give me a hug”, and “give me 5” so she is off to a good start. Akira enjoys going for walks and, despite being a middle aged gal, is still strong on leash. An active adopter that will take her out on adventures would be a great fit for this gal. Akira has some fears of small dogs and has not previously lived with any dogs. Akira has met dogs at the Shelter and communicates to them when she does not want to interact. A quieter home as the only dog would be the best fit for Akira. High traffic dog areas (such as West Cliff or It’s Beach) is not the best fit for this gal as she doesn’t want to comingle with other pups. Akira enjoys playing with toys – particularly squeaky toys. If you are looking for a sidekick who is more of a canine introvert – come meet Akira today!
