Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Neela is a compact (30 lbs.), spritely, energetic, playful work-in-progress. She can still be nervous and she is in a foster home to helping her build her confidence. Here are some notes from her foster home:
"Neela is a wonderful girl and also kind of quirky. She is super affectionate and loves everyone she meets but also has an underconfident, spooked side so it takes some conscious effort to make sure that you aren't undermining her confidence building unintentionally. Our household includes two adults, one teenager, and five resident dogs ranging from young to old and small to medium, but the mediums are bigger than Neela. Our youngest dog, Sugar (a compact pit bull) initially overwhelmed Neela with her enthusiastic play style but Neela learned from the best and has started turning the tables on Sugar by initiating a good game of chase a couple times a day. When afraid, Neela simply removes herself from a situation, which means that she will most likely not be a good dog park or dog beach candidate right out of the gates. She is a fast learner so, with patience, she will get comfortable almost anywhere. Underneath her sometimes nervous side, she is super silly. She would probably thrive with agility or speed obedience training since she is clearly a smarty pants, goes crazy for treats, already knows how to sit, and walks backwards like no dog I've ever seen. She seems incredibly healthy. Her coat is lovely and she's super athletic. We think she's part jack rabbit. She is much happier when she gets a daily dose of aerobic exercise. She's been housetrained while with us. The more we get to know her, the more we think that what Neela needs are genuine dog people, people that know that dogs come in all flavors and what you see on day 1 won't be the same as what you see on day 7 or 30 or 365. A soft temperament and a good sense of humor couldn't hurt, either. Neela is afraid of and deferential to cats. She is not made for apartment living and needs access to a fence yard to feel unfettered."
