Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Dale is estimated to be around 8 years young and he is such a nice boy with an equally nice personality. He came to BAS as a stray and has a fairly minor eye condition we are taking care of with meds and treatment. Soon enough, that will be cleared up and this happy guy will be seeing so well, he might help you spot Santa and his reindeer during their Christmas Eve flight! To meet him, send an email to fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov.

Volunteer Notes, 4/24/24:
We love Dale! He is playful, friendly, and smart. He is also a goofy love bug and we can't resist his beautiful face watching us walk by his kennel! As we've gotten to know him better, it's obvious that he's the total package of a dog: he is mature enough to know how to behave, but has the energy level of a younger dog. One thing he needs help with is learning not to bite the leash out of excitement. Having said that, he responds well to redirection. He is attentive to the people he's with and looks for behavioral cues. He's also a photogenic little ham!

Dog Day Out, 4/22/24:
Dale is the sweetest, and he loves adventures, loves hikes, loves to run. Never barks. Wants to meet with everyone he comes in contact with. Sits pretty for his treats, too. He does pull on the leash a bit but once the excitement wears off he does a lot better. Toys and balls don't interest him much but this good doggy loves to walk and run, and does a great job staying on the path.

Volunteer notes, 4/22/24:
Dale is a very energetic dog who was excited to chase balls in the play yard. He even brought them back and dropped them politely (sometimes we had to wait a while). He was treat-motivated and friendly and knew basic commands.

Dog Day Out, 4/18/24:
Dale is the sweetest, he was so excited to go for a car ride. We took a trip to Reidsville and walked the Chinqua Penn walking trail. Dale was so excited to be outside; we met many friends along the way--squirrels, dogs, a herd of cows. He did well with them all. He did get a little excited when we passed a dog and he wanted to turn around and pulled the leash but I redirected his path and he was fine the rest of the hike. We laid in the sun and had plenty of treats and water. Dale was the sweetest and gentlest when taking treats from my hand. We then ventured to Lake Mackintosh Marina and Dale did so well in the car laying down on the back seat. He also loved the window and sticking his head out, enjoying the car ride. When we got to the lake, we were greeted by ducks and geese and Dale paid them no mind just observing and enjoying his surroundings. Dale wasn't interested in his toys or balls but really loved his treats, his walks, and meeting new friends. He may be an older dog but he sure doesn't show it. He loves the walks we went on and would be a great travel buddy--he loves car rides and jumped right in and out with no problems. Dale deserves a good home. He's an all around great dog, very well behaved, handsome and a loyal companion. If I could adopt, I would choose him over and over again.

Dog Day Out, 4/5/24:
Dale and I enjoyed the beautiful weather today and did LOTS of walking. Don't let his age fool you, this guy does not tire easily! He loved taking in all the smells and saying hello to people we passed. Dale tends to pull on the leash a little, especially when we saw other dogs. But, after some of that initial excitement from being outside wore off, his leash manners got a lot better. Dale is SO SWEET! He loves to be loved on and will lean against you. He also takes treats very nicely and was so patient waiting for his pup cup. One of his favorite things to do is people watch through the car window! I took Dale to Lake Mary Nell at Elon and I was curious to see how he'd behave around the ducks (spoiler: he passed with flying colors). He was interested in them, but he kept his distance and did not try to chase after or bark at them! Dale is the sweetest boy and anybody would be lucky to have him :)
