Foster notes, 1/4/24:

Miss Betty is a beautiful tuxedo cat and has been a loving and attentive mom to her four kittens, who have thrived under her care. However, despite being with me for the past six weeks, she has retained her semi-feral behavior. Although I was able to touch her while she was nursing her kittens, she will no longer tolerate it. She will hiss when I approach her with my hand, but has never swatted or attacked me. She doesn't run and hide, and will tolerate other people in the room. When she isn't cuddling with her babies, eating, or using the litter box (which she does without fail!), Miss Betty is usually in the corner beside the cat tree, or on the perch looking out the window. I had hoped to make some progress with her, but she shows no interest in becoming a house cat at this point. I do feel she'll be an excellent barn cat, as she is now used to being around people. Miss Betty, even though feral, has used the litter box from the beginning, and has never had an accident. She eats both dry and wet food and has an excellent appetite. Miss Betty and her kittens haven't had any contact with my own cats outside of the kitten room, so I don't know how she will be with other cats. I don't know if she was part of a managed colony before she was brought to BAS, or if she was a single stray. I do think she'll make an excellent barn or warehouse cat, as she has gotten used to people and being fed regularly.

If you're looking for a good barn or warehouse kitty, email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov.
