Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
notes from volunteers about Vin on a mobile event: Vin is a big puppy! He even sort of flops around like one. Friendly, enjoys attention, had a relaxed body all day. Plays with toys. Walks well on leash but can pull, he is strong. Leans in for attentions. Takes treats gently. Active and alert, friendly with all ages. --mm
Notes from Handler: Vin spent the day with Mobile at the Petsmart in Monrovia on 2/3. We had a nice day out as he enjoyed walking, sniffing, playing, and cuddling.
Getting him in and out of the kennel was easy and he rode quietly over to the venue. He stood patiently while he was being harnessed. Then we took a long walk around the area. He walks nicely on leash without pulling unless he is trying to catch up to the other dogs in which case he pulls like crazy (I was happy to have a strong leash and harness on him so that I could get him to go the other way).
When we got back to our area, Vin settled down near the other mobile dogs (2 yards apart) and he relaxed with some toys. He let me pet him while he chewed on his toys and he cuddled and rolled around happily.
He likes squeaky toys and balls. When Chet left for a walk he went over and grabbed one of the toys that he had been playing with and that became his new favorite. He also enjoyed kicking his ball around and even passed it over to Captain who quickly took possession of it.
He was calm and relaxed around the other dogs that he knew but when a strange dog passed through the area he became very alert (ears and tail up) and made rumbly noises in is throat until they were out of the area. When we walked through the store he didn’t seem to mind the other dogs in the store and just looked at them with interest.
There weren’t too many people passing through this time, but Vin seemed happy to meet the ones that did come over. He enjoyed getting petted and scratched and he gave lots of kisses. Sometimes he gets a little jumpy when he gets excited, but he toned it down if he was told “off”. He knows “sit” and “down” and will stay lying down if there is no perceived threat. He’s a great dog and super sweet but might be a bit too much for a family with small kids or little dogs. He would probably be okay with other big dogs if introductions are done slowly and carefully.
