Oh, Ralphie. This is such a special guy who is friendly, intelligent, and high energy. Ralphie is a happy and excited dog who does well people who understand that Border Collies are HIGH ENERGY herding dogs that do not make good couch potatoes! They thrive on having a job to do and will get themselves into destructive patterns when not entertained appropriately. Ralphie is a very happy boy – he loves exercising (but needs leash training) and being in the car. He will want to great everyone with a full body wiggle. One staff member stated that Ralphie is a “really cool dog. He stopped at one point and focused on me with treats. Before I could register what he was doing he had already shown me 3 tricks trying to earn himself a cookie.” He was introduced him to a dog savvy cat. He showed appropriate interest, and could be called away with a treat. He didn’t fixate, but wanted to play. He be too much for some cats, but didn’t seem at all aggressive. Ralphie is not food or treat aggressive at all. He shared a water bowl and toys with the foster’s dogs. He’s a hard playing dog so should be matched with a dog of similarly high energy. While playing with other dogs, he shows appropriate behavior and takes their corrections well. He also seems like it would be easy to correct behaviors like jumping and trying to get on furniture, etc. as he is very smart. His foster did not think he was house or crate trained so adopters should be prepared to work on that with Ralphie.
