COSMOS - ID#A1124855

I am a neutered male, white and brown brindle American Pit Bull Terrier mix.

The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 6 months old.

I weigh 49 pounds.

I was found in NY 11207.

I have been at the shelter since Sep 08, 2017.

This information is 1 hour old.
Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Cosmos displays a nervous posture initially and avoids the other dog. In subsequent sessions, Cosmos has become a little playful but remains overall uncomfortable. Cosmos was brought in as a stray so his behavior around other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Cosmos be placed with resident dogs that match his calm sociability. All introductions should be done slowly and under supervision.

Intake Behavior:
Cosmos had a loose wiggly body, he began to hard bark when he saw another dog in the lobby. He became aroused and jumped and continued to bark. He was photographed and taken into the kennel by animal care specialist

During the initial examination Cosmos was tense, nervous, soft muzzle placed, allowed all handling.

We have no history on Cosmos so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment.
Cosmos displayed high energy and movement throughout assessment.
Cosmos will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the (behaviors outlined below).
Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Cosmos has shown during playgroup (see GROUPBEHAVIOR SUMMARY), we feel that Cosmos should not visit dog parks. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed.
