Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
We can never say for sure what life was like for any of the strays we get in before coming into the shelter, but it seems like Clara here may have had it harder than most. She came in on 4/26/23, very timid and with a litter of young puppies she was caring for all by herself. She loves treats and takes them gently from your hand, but then she immediately goes to hide them in the play yard like she's scared she may never be fed again and wants to have a stash. She'll spend a few minutes nosing grass around to cover up her treasure, then will come back all smiles hoping to earn more. She'll even try and hide food in her kennel sometimes. She's been with us, getting regular dependable means, for a while now ans she still feels the need to hide her food. It's heartbreaking, but we're looking forward to the day she can finally forget about all past food struggles.

As her motherhood duties have scaled back and she's able to focus on herself more and get the attention she deserves. She's turned out to be such a sweet dog! She's opened up a lot and loves being around people and getting attention. Being pet or taken out for walks makes her smile so big! Clara is very happy to stretch her legs when loose in our play yards. She has an average energy level, but values being pet more than playing. She definitely knows what a leash is for and gets so happy when she sees one. She'll run from across the play yard so you can put it on her and go for a walk. She also already knows how to sit on command.
