Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Jessie unfortunately had to be surrendered to the shelter because his owners because they thought he needed more space than they could provide him with. Their notes on him say that he was great around their 13 year old son, but he was starting to have some problems getting along with their other, smaller dog.

Jessie, like most animals surrendered by their owners, is finding the shelter to be very scary and stressful. That fear sometimes causes him to act out. He is very protective of his kennel, and he makes people earn his trust. He really only feels comfortable around the people he sees on a regular basis. Once he trusts you, he's as sweet as can be and he'll happily let you leash him up and take him out for a walk as well as pet him…it just takes him awhile to build up to that point with new people. He loves treats, especially beef or bacon favored treats - that's one way to help build trust with him!

He has attended in shelter playgroups with other dogs and done well. He is a bit awkward and doesn't seem to have been well socialized in the past. Even so playing with other dogs helps him to relax and have some fun.
