Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Smokey had longed to replace Smokey Bear as the mascot for wildfire prevention ever since he learned they had the same name. Unfortunately, Mr. Bear doesn't appear to be retiring anytime soon and our Smokey admits a bear is a better representative for our national forests than a tuxedo cat. I mean, let's face it, Smokey is dressed for fancy dinner parties, not roughing it the woods like Grizzly Adams - but don't tell him that.
Smokey arrived at the shelter when his previous dog roommate decided they didn't want a cat roommate anymore. Needless to say, this left a sore spot for Smokey, and he no longer wishes to be around dogs or even other cats now.
Smokey is extremely active and can't stand being cooped up in his kennel. He loves to play with wand toys and chase laser lights. He does enjoy petting and being brushed, and you can pick him for short periods of time. Smokey is pretty self-sufficient. He just needs a place where he can be the one and only king (pet) of the household with plenty of room to stretch his legs.
