Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Dirk..a.k.a Dirk the Jerk. Dirk was brought to the shelter as a feral cat. Although he is a shy boy he does occasionally let staff pet his head. Evident by Dirk's scarred face and tattered ears he has lived his life outside fighting for his survival. We're not talking Bear Grylls' Man vs. Wild. This ain't television. We're talking Hugh Glass fighting a grizzly bear.
Now that he is at the shelter those days of survival mode are over...or so we thought. Dirk is learning to trust people, but he still has killer instincts and you don't want to rub him the wrong way. Both figuratively and literally. He sometimes enjoys being petted around his head and shoulders, and may tolerate being brushed...for a short time. He loves to play with ribbons (probably reminds him of snakes from his past) and is contemplating the meaning of a laser light. Sometimes when Dirk has had enough attention he will give you a smack. If you are looking for a barn cat or mouser that you might be able to pet a little then Dirk is the guy for you.
