Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Penny and Poppy are a bonded pair from Louisiana. They were surrendered to a high kill shelter by their owner. One of our FABULOUS foster families happened to be in New Orleans and went hours out of their way to bring them to us! (We have the best fosters!) Anyway, we spayed them, got vaccines and started them on treatment for heartworms. Should they be adopted, Hound Rescue will continue to pay for the heartworm treatment if done at Emancipet. Our wonderful vets at Daylily Animal Hospital think they are around 1 to 2 years old. We think Poppy is a Beagle mix and Penny is a Dachshund mix. They are each under 20 pounds. They were terrified of humans at first but are coming around. They are sweet, obedient, and very polite. No mischief and absolutely love snuggling! No need to crate! They are learning to walk on leashes and to play with toys! They both have great recall and are food focus, so training with treats makes great progress. They would make a great pair for a family looking to expand with smaller dogs.
